This image looks over Bright Angel Canyon
from the Grand Canyon Lodge
perched on the edge of the remote North Rim.
Looking south and taken during late October a bit more
than a decade ago. one can see
the cleavage Bright Angel Canyon carves
through Grand Canyon's north side.
The most sunlit clouds are almost
over Phantom Ranch and the junction
of Bright Angel Creek with the Colorado River,
about 6-7 miles (10-11km) as the crow flies
from my tripod.

Though only October,
this storm did bring cold and snow to the
8200ft/2500m North Rim.
This image was published
across 2 full pages in the
February 1998 issue of Arizona Highways
as part of my photo portfolio
of Grand Canyon clouds called
"When The Sky Falls".
(taken on Fuji Velvia 4x5 film)

You mean thing you! Now I have to go through all my AZ Hwys to find this shot. Grumble, grumble....

But it looks like this one will be well worth my trouble. :-)

Thanks for the :+fav:
Bookman's in Flagstaff has old issues for about $1 each.
Arizona Highways is much like National Geographic
in that keeping past issues is a treasure-trove of great photography.
The images are fabulously reproduced (usually).
Thanks again :)

Cloud photography is for the patient :)
Thanks for the comment

Ahh, Bookman's booths, wifi, jam sessions and browsing. Wish I was there right now but it's many states away from me.

In the interim, perhaps you'd upload a larger image. If you have the time and the inclination, that is. Though I probably have the issue in a box buried up in my attic.

Life has interfered with my returning to the southwest for now but I keep hoping. Do you see yourself returning for more than a visit?
