There is a reference to this bridge in Section 3 of my journal on Grand Canyon's "Corridor" [link]
Actually, I am not positive that the official name of this bridge is "Silver". Nonetheless, everyone at the canyon would know what you are talking about if you called it "Silver". The bridge is the river terminus of the Bright Angel Trail. It owes its existence, however, to the trans-canyon water pipeline which it carries across the river. The pipeline can be seen branching off from the bridge in the lower left of the image. The cable next to it is an electric cable carrying current to Phantom Ranch on the other side of the river. Since this is an all metal bridge, one always hopes that this insulation holds, at least until you get across. This was taken on 4x5 Fuji Velvia with my 75mm wide-angle Schneider Super-Angulon lens and is undoubtedly polarized. The big red rock formation with the pinnacle (seen between the struts) is Zoroaster Temple. The tan formation to its left is Sumner Butte (named for a crew member on the first known river trip through the canyon in 1869). That is me on the bridge - any release problems are solved. |
