This Grand Canyon image was about two years in the making.
I had tried Ribbon on some previous trips. Once I had settled on the shot, it was too late as the sun shone brightly in parts which caused a major contrast problem with Fuji Velvia. The next time I tried was in November. However, the green mantle under the falls had turned brown. I finally got this during a very hot June. I got to the falls around 6 AM both to beat the direct light and the gathering of visitors. I used my 75mm Schneider Super Angulon and a KR3 warming filter. This image has appeared in two Arizona Highway publications, but not as yet in the magazine itself. Ribbon Falls is located about eight miles down the North Kaibab trail from the North Rim (not a day hike) OR, 6 miles up the North Kaibab from Phantom Ranch (definitely a great day hike). "Ribbon Falls from The Alcove" accompanies my journal on Grand Canyon's "Corridor" [link] The reference point is in section 6 of the journal. Daily DeviationGiven 2009-09-05Ribbon Falls from The Alcove by *StarTyger This deviants gallery is just amazing, with some amazing landscapes concentrating on the American Southwest, and honestly I had a very hard time trying to pick just one shot to feature as a DD. In the end, I chose this one, with it's amazing light and the way it simply comes across on the viewers screen while looking at it, sheer beauty photographed perfectly! (Featured by ^kkart) |

It is good to hear from you
it is a very beautiful place.
It took some time to pick out that spot.
There is a large amount of red rock in the canyon.

Actually, I probably talk too much.
But, I do think providing too much of a description
is preferable to the "..."
I see with some submissions.
