The most famous natural bridge of all.
Easily reached by those who venture out onto Lake Foul...er, Powell.
Legend has it that an Indian warrior was being pursued by enemies,
and escaped when a rainbow turned to stone.
This image was only the second that I ever shot with a view camera.
That camera remains complicated now, but 2 decades ago, it was absolutely bewildering.
There was so much to remember to do from the technical end.
All that, plus composing and focusing (using a 7X loup) with my head stuck under a black cloth looking at an upside down image.
Being a natural pessimist, I expected nothing;
but, was truly elated when something came out.
This view is currently unavailable.
The Lake has receded a great deal since this shot and may never recover.
AND, the Dine (Navajo) request (it's actually not enforceable)...
request that people not walk underneath the bridge to reach this side (the side the sun hits).
At the time I took this image, there were no such "requests" voiced.
And if I understand correctly, the real objection is that large groups do not venture under the bridge (ie., the tour boats).
A reverent individual will not occur any wrath from the powerful spirits that dwell here.
i went to arches national park about 6 years ago, it was very awesome. i really wish i was into photography then, because on that trip we went to some awesoem places. (mesa verde, arches, sand dunes, etc.)
well, I didn't add any effects.
And actually I didn't travel much.
Lake Powell is only about 1 1/2 hours away
and the Grand Canyon--I used to live there.
Most of 'travelling' was really hiking in the canyon.
Thanks for checking out the Rainbow Bridge.
You have a habit of having excellent color and excellent clarity in your photos. Please, don't stop.
I really like how this shot is off center, though. Like, the focus is the bridge, but it's also on the colors, the reflection, and the sky. Very, very nicely done.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
This is YOUR opportunity to mock, ridicule and generally take great delight and amusement whilst poking fun at the beloved Volunteers and Staff of deviantART.

My father told me he went there on horseback around 1930 or so.
